Local stores partner with the Boys & Girls Club this Back2School season

JULY 26, 2019 (Wausau, WI) -- Believe it or not - summer is already 2/3 of the way over. And school supplies are already filling the shelves at stores across the country. But this Back2School Season - the Boys & Girls Club of the Wausau Area would like to ask you to shop at Family Dollar, Michaels and Old Navy - because those three organizations are giving back to our cause in different ways.

Family Dollar will be asking customers to donate $1, $2, $3 at register to support Boys & Girls Clubs between July 25 and Aug. 28.

At Old Navy - you can donate at the register between Aug. 1 - Aug 14 and money goes right back to the Boys & Girls Club. If you donate $5 or more, you will get a coupon for $5 off your next purchase of $35 or more.

And a supply drive will be held at Michaels from Aug. 4 - 31. Items include Michaels brand: construction paper, washable paint, scissors, paint brushes, paint, pencils, craft sticks, pencil boxes, glue sticks. Crayola brand: crayons, markers, pencils, glitter pens, paint, watercolor paint, paint brushes. Elmer's brand: glue.

After school is a critical, yet often overlooked, part of a child’s day. For every hour a child spends in school, they spend two hours out of school. The way a child spends the hours after school can significantly impact the path they take.

The Boys & Girls Club is a leader in youth development during out-of-school time. We reach kids who need us most with outcome-driven programs that empower kids and teens to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives on their paths to great futures.

The average cost of school supplies is $488 per child, putting a burden on many struggling families. Students who don’t begin the school year prepared can fall behind quickly.

So - What do donations do?

$1 can provide a healthy snack for a kid after school

$2 can give a kid 12 minutes with a mentor

$3 can provide a kids with an 18 min of homework help

Boys & Girls Clubs want to ensure all kids and teens have access to the necessary supplies and a supportive after school learning environment to succeed in school and achieve a great future.

Help ensure Club kids have the resources and supplies they need to be successful by giving them the supplies they need so they can focus on their studies. School + Out of School = Great Futures.
